We've been through so many changes this year as a Trust and it has been an amazing journey! Josh Sanford came on board as Director, we welcomed some new youth workers and moved offices back home to Whangaparaoa Baptist Church! We ran our second year of FWD: Forward With Direction learning hub which has been a success with 16 young people attending, 3 of those withdrawing to full time employment, 13 passing the course and 10 also achieving NCEA Level 2. All students are now in employment or are going on to further tertiary education. Our youth workers journeyed alongside over 80 young people in a longer term mentoring capacity, had over 8000 young people throughout group programmes and school activities, and had some great successes with young people remaining in school and improving their attendance, overcoming obstacles such as bullying, and taking strides in getting the mental health assistance they deserve. Thank you to our youth workers for going above and beyond this year.
From the team at Coast Youth Community Trust, We wish you a meri kirihimete and a happy new year full of replenishment an relaxation.
A significant supporter for us this year is Mike from NZ Sailing. Mike loves what we do and is always lending a hand out of his pocket, at youth camps, and at the youth group. Tucked in to Peters Way in Silverdale, Mike and the team are experts at getting people inspired to get out on the sea, sailing and doing other watersports. His aim is to make sailing, a notoriously expensive sport, more affordable, and donating much of his time and expertise (and cash!!) in the process. We are so grateful to have Mike on board (see what we did there?) supporting the improtant work CYC Trust is doing on the coast. If you'd like to get in touch with NZSailing, flick him an email.
